This amulet can be used as a totem for reality testing during your waking state, which could be holding the amulet with one hand and trying to go through it with the index of your other hand. This would not normally occur but would be possible in a dream (once you do this often enough, you will tend to repeat the action in your dream and realise you're dreaming when it is possible).

Steps to improve your likelihood of lucid dreaming:

1) Perform a reality test before going to sleep.

2) Set an alarm for six hours after you fall asleep. You will be likely to wake up during a REM (rapid eye movement) stage of sleep.

3) Once the alarm goes off, stay awake for 45-60 minutes. It is important to actually get up to be fully awake. 

4) Go back to sleep. Once you identify that you could be in a dream, think of something that you would like to happen and try to influence the courses of action.
